After hard fighting, our boys succeeded in cutting their way out, and retreated in good order.

The enemy lost at least 30 killed, besides many wounded. Our loss was 6 killed, 7 or 8 wounded.

Lieutenant Jernigan was wounded in the thigh, not badly. Two Government wagons were abandoned on account of the roads; the teams were all saved. Official report will be forwarded as soon as possible.
