The major-general commanding directs me to inform you that General Burnside reports that he is at the crossing of the Ny, 1 1/2 miles from Spotsylvania Court-House. The map is erroneous. A man living in this vicinity states that it is but a mile from where you are to General Burnside. This, however, may be erroneous. He states that Gayle's farm, on the east bank of the Ny, extends nearly from General Burnside up to where you are. The major-general commanding wishes you to establish connection with Burnside and Wright.

Report result as promptly as possible.
