GENERAL: The major-General commanding instructs me to direct you to cause parties of be at once employed in the construction of fascines, for the purpose of corduroying at different points from the mainland to the east branch of the Little Ogeechee. They should be made of some light material, and he suggests rice straw as the most practicable and convenient.

SPECIAL ORDERS,
HDQRS. SEVENTEENTH ARMY CORPS, Numbers 302. Station 2, GA., December 8, 1864.

The orders for the movement to-morrow are as follows:

1. Major General J. A. Mower, commanding First Division, will have the advance, and will move forward at 7 a. m.

2. Brigadier General G. A. Smith, commanding Fourth Division, will be prepared to move at 8 o'clock, and will follow the First Division.

3. Brigadier General M. D. Leggett, commanding Third Division, will be prepared to move at 9 o'clock, and will follow the Fourth Division.

4. The First Michigan Engineers and train will follow the First Division train.

5. The pontoon train, Lieutenant-Colonel Rusk commanding, will move in rear of the train of the Fourth Division.

6. The trains of the headquarters Military Division of the Mississippi and these headquarters will move as heretofore.

Order of march: First, pioneer corps; second, Second Brigade; third, battery; fourth, headquarters train Military Division and Seventeenth Army Corps train; fifth, Third Brigade; sixth, First Brigade; seventh, ambulance corps; eighth, ordnance train; ninth, supply train; tenth, First Michigan Engineers and train.

This column is now moving. I shall try to find a road to the left of the one you are on. I fear Davis is not as far advanced as I hoped last night. He wrote me at 2 p. m. that his roads were badly obstructed.
