On Saturday morning, the 11th of October, the Federals came in, as I supposed, between 11 and 12; it may have been between 11 and 1 I saw them coming through.

Question. Did you on the 11th know positively that the rebel army had gone on the Camp Dick Robinson road?

I do not know that all went on that road, but a considerable number had gone that road, from the best information I could get.

Question. What kind of road is there from Dick's River to Camp Dick Robinson on what you call the Cave Run road?

It is a good road; that is, from Dick's River to Bryantsville and Camp Dick Robinson.

Question. Is it a graded road and perfectly practicable for wagons, or is it a difficult road?

It is a graded road and practicable for wagons, as I have been informed, and a good road, but I have not passed over it for same little time.

Question. Have you any idea of the quantity of water that is required for a large army?

No, sir; I have not.

Question. How is Harrodsburg and the vicinity supplied with water; are there many large springs or streams immediately about the town?

There is this one spring. That is a large spring and does not exhaust at all; all others do. That is the principal spring. At that time it was a dry season, and we had little water in the town except at this spring.

Cross-examination by the JUDGE-ADVOCATE:

Question. Which way did the troops go that came into Harrodsburg from toward Perryville on the 9th, when the young man told you they were retreating?

From the best information I could get they went on the Camp Dick Robinson or the Cave Run road.

Question. How far toward Perryville did Kirby Smith's army march on the 10th, when you saw them pass through Harrodsburg?

I do not know.

Question. When that army came back did it take the same road that Bragg's army had taken toward Camp Dick Robinson?

From the best information I could get it did.

Question. You say Kirby Smith's forces, coming from toward Lawrenceburg and passing through Harrodsburg down toward Perryville on the 10th, got through or ceased going through about half past six o'clock in the evening?

Yes, sir; that is correct.

Question. How long was Bragg's army going through Harrodsburg toward Camp Dick Robinson?

I do not know.

Question. They had got through, however, before Kirby Smith began moving down toward Perryville?

No, sir.

Question. Did the two forces pass each other at Harrodsburg?

There was Kirby Smith going down and some others coming up; they were mixed up. I cannot exactly explain how it was.

Question. When you say you saw the last of them leaving for Camp Dick Robinson what troops were they going through last?

It was a cavalry force that left last; what troops they were I do not know.
