Just received dispatch from scout this morning stating there was a cavalry force of 200 or 300 lying in Moorefield. Can I send Major Simpson with his command?

General B. F. KELLEY:

We have arrived here safe, and learn reliable that small party rebels, some sixty or seventy, captured all of our men, except three, opposite here this morning. No horses here; will have to send your messenger to Hagerstown from Hancock. We will leave here from Hancock in a few minutes, and will report from there. the number of our men captured here was a lieutenant and 17 men. I also learn that there is force of rebels at McCoy's Ferry, about four miles from here.
