and bring them with you, but you will not remain there longer than Wednesday morning. You will leave the guns of Battery M, First Michigan Light Artillery, and bring the officers and men, but if the other battery has no guns you will bring it and leave the Michigan battery to garrison the post. You will comply with this order without hesitation or delay or reference to any other authority except that of Major-General Thomas, Lieutenant-General Grant, or the President of the United States.
