I have received the general order to corps commanders to follow up reconnaissance. Shall I await orders from General Sedgwick, or push forward?

HEADQUARTERS SIXTH CORPS, In the Field, July 14, 1863.

Major-General HOWARD:

GENERAL: General Sedgwick directs that you move with your command through Hagerstown, on the Clear Spring road; that, after passing the town, you halt, and send out a reconnoitering party in the direction of Clear Spring, to learn if any force of the enemy has moved in that direction, and that you keep up communication with the First Corps, on your left, and look well to your right. The First Corps is directed to move to the Williamsport and Hagerstown pike and await orders. The Sixth Corps moves on the left of the First, and will advance until the position of the enemy is determined. By command of Major-General Sedgwick:
