HEADQUARTERS SECOND DIVISION, CAVALRY CORPS,
Shepherdstown, Va., July 15, 1863-3 p. m.

This morning had a skirmish with the enemy's cavalry near Charlestown. The enemy used artillery. Have taken 100 prisoners, including sick. On the roads to Winchester and Martinsburg, strong pickets; on that to Winchester, infantry. Have directed Colonel Huey to come here. The enemy moving to Winchester. This place was occupied by cavalry.
