MY DEAR SIR: I send you a dispatch just received, with inst5uctions to deliver it without delay. * I have heard nothing from General Wade Hmapton except what is mentioned in the inclosed dispatch. I have answeered hm at every point along the line, informing him that the fery at this point was in good order and that you had ordered me to hold it till he (General Hampton) came, which I shall do regardless of the consequences, unless relieved by your order.

It is desirabel that your command should not pass through tyhis place, and you will therfore proceed, via Tuckasego Ford, toward Yourksville, S. C. You will find that your best route on account of supplies for both men and horses. If it be necessary that your command draw rations at this place only the commissaries and their necessary teams should be permitted to enter this town or Chester.
