I have ordered a division to support Kilpatrick. General Buford has since reported here through Culpeper. The movement may require the advance of the corps, for which I have prepared.

GENERAL: The major-general commanding, G. G. Meade, has passed Rappahannock River on his way here, where his headquarters will be to-night. Cannot reach him with this dispatch.

Commanding Officer Cavalry Corps:

The major-general commanding has directed General French to give General Kilpatrick sufficient infantry support to enable him to secure Pony Mountain. Direct General Kilpatrick to secure it.
