ment. It is the desire of the President to assume this control according to the spirit of the convention without delay. I therefore feel it my duty to invite your attention to this matter, and to request that the military force now in the service of the State of Virginia be placed under the direction and made subjedct to the orders of the President of the Confederate States. Until this is done, that unity and harmony of action so essential to success can hardly be attained.
