October 7, 1864 - 10.15 p. m.

Major-General BIRNEY:

I should have said signal tower instead of Deep Bottom. Kautz is ordered up. You can dispose of him as may be of most use.

BENJ. F. BUTLER,

Major-General, Commanding.

HEADQUARTERS,
October 7, 1864 - 9.30 a. m.

General WEITZEL:

Do you see anything on the left that looks like a demonstration, or is it only mortar firing? If they are massing troops at all there this move on the right may be the feint, but I am inclined to think not.

BENJ. F. BUTLER,

Major-General, Commanding.

HEADQUARTERS EIGHTEENTH ARMY CORPS,
October 7, 1864.

General BUTLER:

I see no movement of the troops in my front.

G. WEITZEL,

Brevet Major-General.
