17, 1862.-General Braxton Bragg, C. S. Army, supersedes General G. T. Beauregard in command of Department Numbers 2, or the Western Department.

18, 1862.-Skirmish at Wilson's Gap and occupation of Cumberland Gap by the Union forces.++
