JUNE 12, 2016; 1PM AT THE MUSEUM
The James A. Ramage Civil War Museum will host author Ron Blair on Sunday, June 12 to
discuss his new book on the life of Col. Frank Lane Wolford, entitled, Wild Wolf—The Great Civil War
Rivalry. The event will begin at 1:00 p.m. Published by Acclaim Press, Blair’s book explores
Wolford’s heroic leadership as commander of the Union 1st Kentucky Cavalry, how he fought in more
than 300 battles and skirmishes during which he was wounded seven times, and his notable rivalry with
John Hunt Morgan and his Confederate band known as Morgan’s Raiders. The book also provides an
in-depth look at the rise and fall of one of Kentucky’s greatest cavalry commanders, and helps the reader
understand the volatile political atmosphere in Kentucky during 1864-65, during which time Wolford
was arrested for speaking out against the policies of President Abraham Lincoln.
Ron Blair, who is the great-great-nephew of Col. Wolford, is a member of the Civil War Trust,
the Kentucky Historical Society, Friends of Henry Clay, and the Morgan’s Men Association. He has
lectured on the subject of Wolford and the Civil War in various cities and states, and has contributed to
several Civil War publications. He and his wife live in Lexington, KY.
