My telegram in cipher this morning is based upon the supposition that the enemy will not content himself with Atlanta, but will continue offensive movements. All the lieutenant-generals agree with me.

Let your command move quietly and steadily to Griffin, covering the artillery. In case of a raid against that place, or any other point within its vicinity, make such disposition as you may think expedient to resist it.

Keep scouts out in the direction of Greenville, to give information of the approach of any force of the enemy on the Macon and Columbus Railroad. Burn the bridge at Flat Shoals Factory.
