General Hood desires you to have citizen move their hogs and cattle from the immediate flanks of the army. he does not wish to take the stock if the citizens are willing to drive them from the enemy's reach.

The general commanding requests me to say that any cattle or hogs found in reach of the enemy he desires you to have the citizens move from the immediate flanks of the army. it is not his desire to take the stock from the citizens if they are willing to drive them inside of our lines.

Report of the condition of the works and obstructions on the main line occupied by Steward's corps, august 25, 1864.

GENERAL FRENCH'S FRONT.

The only work required in front of this line is in strengthening and extending the obstructions. On portions of this line the abatis is well constructed of large timber, thickly placed. In front of Ward's and Hoskins' batteries particularly the obstructions are works. Chevauxde-first can be placed throughout the line with advantage.
