Your dispatch is received. All right. The enemy's cavalry has made its appearance near Acworth, so I believe General Kilpatrick will find his road clear. I would not move far to-morrow, unless you detect the enemy moving also.

We have had considerable skirmishing and some artillery firing during the day. Nothing more serious. I have extended my line more than a mile toward the West Point railroad and fortified.

Commanding Fourteenth Army Corps:

GENERAL: The major-general commanding has information that the enemy were moving toward our left during last night. He desires you to push out a line of skirmishers in your front immediately and ascertain, if possible, whether they occupy their position in force or not.
