GENERAL: In my recommendations for promotion by brevet or otherwise, I omitted the names of the following officers, some of whom I particularly mentioned in my reports, but all were conspicuous for bold and galant conduct in actions: Major Ernest von Vegesack, aide - de- camp to Brigadier - General Butterfield, distinguished for efficient service at Hanover Court - House, and gallant and neritorious conduct at battle of Chickahominy.
