Question. What was passing at the time you left?

Infantry.

Question. How long before you left had the wagons ceased passing?

The main body of the wagons had ceased passing about 12 o'clock, though occasionally wagons were passing during the whole time I was there.

Question. Have you ever seen any other army pass besides this of General Bragg?

I have seen divisions of armies.

Question. Did you ever before make an estimate as to the number that passed?

I did not, sir.

By General DANA:

Question. In which direction was this army moving?

Northeast direction, sir.

Question. Did you see any cavalry in the army?

I did, sir.

Question. What part of the column did it occupy?

The greatest portion of the cavalry occupied the rear and front.

Question. Was this cavalry included in the one hundred and forty-three regiments that you counted?

It was not.

Question. How many regiments of cavalry did you see?

I did not count the regiments of cavalry.

Question. What was your estimate of the quantity of cavalry they had with them?

My impression now is that there were 1,000 or 1,500 in advance and about 1,000 in the rear.

Question. Do you know whether Breckinridge's division was in that column?

I do not, sir.

Question. Have you heard since where Breckinridge's division was about that time?

I have heard only by rumors and have no correct information on the subject.

Question. From all you have heard, state your opinion as to where Breckinridge was at that time.

From my information I think he was in Tennessee, sir.

Question. Can you state about the day of the week or month and the number of miles to the north of Munfordville that you made this count?

It was on Monday, sir. I do not recollect the day of the month, but I have it registered at home, but it was in September. It was about 35 miles northeast of Munfordville.

Question. Can you state about how many days after the surrender of Munfordville?

I think the surrender was on Wednesday or Tuesday, and it was the Monday following.
