COLONEL: I have the honor to report, for the information of the corps commander, that my line is advanced some 250 yards farther than when I last reported, bringing my skirmishers at one point less than 300 yards from the enemy's works. My two batteries are in position on the line occupied by my skirmishers yesterday. My division is considerably in advance of the one on my right, and I have to wait until it comes up. I am erecting a battery for two navy 100-pounder on my extreme left, within a quarter of a mile of Blakely River. The guns should be in position to-morrow. The four 30 pounder were sent to General Hawkins on the extreme right.
