Direct Major Wintter, engineer officer, to forward to Barton Station all the pontoon boats (with rope and flooring) that he has on hand. You will also collect and send to the same point sufficient transportation to forward the boats, &c., to any point on the river that may be designated.

General Hood telegraphs, near Nashville on the 10th, urging that all troops belonging to his army be hastened forward, and Mississippi and Alabama should furnish garrisons from Corinth to Huntsville inclusive. He requests that this be urged on the governors. Please comply with his request.
