Assistant Adjutant-General, Meridian, Miss.:

A company of cavalry, sixty-six strong, marched from Enterprise to Shubuta this morning. Order the commanding officer to halt at Shubuta. Send out pickets and scouts toward the enemy, and report to Colonel Colvin, commanding Clanton's brigade, who will reach Shubuta to-night.

Assume command of all troops at Meridian and between Meridian and Bucatunna, and endeavor to attack the enemy before he reaches the railroad. Establish yourself where think best. Call on Governor Clark, at Macon, to hasten the militia to you.

Shubuta, Miss.:

Stop at Shubuta or Bucatunna, as you find best, in order to defeat the enemy in his attempt to strike the railroad. A company of cavalry left Enterprise this morning sixty-six strong, on its way to join McCulloch here; stop it, and use as scouts or otherwise. General Thomas is on the up train of cars to Meridian, to command in absence of General Gardner. Keep me informed of all that transpires.
