Inclosed you will find another note* from Captain Hill. He is at the point to gather information. Send me all the army news. I am at a loss to know something about the movements of the army. I want 2,000 cavalry very badly, and think that I am entitled to the command of such force. With that number I can turn over the whole Federal army. It is scattered all over the route they are moving. This command that I now have is not worth a cent. You cannot get more than 40 good fighting men from it.
