Mr. W. M. HIGHT:

SIR: I am instructed by General Beauregard to say that you are authorized to call upon the citizens adjacent to the Washington Branch, Georgiia Railroad, for such lumber, wagons, and labor as they are willing to contrubute for the repairs of that road, and for all of which the Government will pay a just compensation. Captain L. P. Grant, engineer, has been requested to furnish you iron, spikes, &c., sufficient to place the road before mentioned in thorough repair. Inclosed is an order* directing the assistant commissary of subsistence at Barnett's Station and Washington to issue, upon your requisition, rations for 200 negro laborers.
