The divisions of Generals Ames and Paine will advance up the main road, Paine's division leading. Abbott's brigade will advance up the military road. Should the enemy be found in his expected position beyond Mott's Creek, the main body will attack them in front, while Abbott's brigade attacks his left flank and endeavors to turn it. Myrick's battery will accompany the main body; Lee's battery will accompany General Abbott. General Abott will not, without further orders, advance more than two miles beyond his present position on the military road. He will endeavor to keep up communication with the main body by couriers and patrols, and will keep the commanding general, who accompanies the main body, constantly informed of his progress. He will also reconnoiter all roads by which he can cross to the main road.
