Following dispatch just received from General Ransom:

WELDON, November 7, [1863].

The enemy, from 10 gunboats and transports, are landing at Winton, on their way to Weldon. If there are no demonstrations elsewhere, send out what forces you can spare. I have two regiments.

I have ordered Barton's brigade to get ready to move. Do you know of any demonstrations to prevent this re-enforcement being sent to Weldon? I shall go myself if report is verified.

Last night between 11 and 12 m. received information of the enemy landing at Winton; forces, 10 boats and transports; destination supposed to be Weldon. Two cavalry regiments reported 20 miles below Winton.

GENERAL: Colonel Gorgas, Chief of Ordnance, informs me that you can be supplied in a few days, from the tredegar Works, with some 10 and 20 pounder Parrott guns, and that as soonas rifling machine is put in working order some 30-pounder Parrotts can be furnished.
