GENERAL: The commanding general directs me to say that from the Chickahominy River, which you will cross, to where the next water is is about four miles. We will camp on the battle-field of Hanover Court-House.

Please furnish an official report of the action of your corps in the battle of Sailor's Creek, fought April 6, 1865, to Major General P. H. Sheridan. It was the intention of the lieutenant-general that (in the absence of other orders) when you joined Sheridan you should act under his orders, and he was so instructed. A copy of this dispatch will be forwarded to Major-General Meade.
