It is also stated that the North Carolina troops voted against the employment of negro soldiers, while those from Georgia were in favor, and those from South Carolina were about equally divided: the vote of troops from other States were not known in their camp.

CIRCULAR.] HEADQUARTERS SIXTH ARMY CORPS,

It having been reported to these headquarters that a moment of the enemy may be expected, division commanders and the commander of the Artillery Brigade are directed to hold their commands in readiness to meet an attack.

The corps officer of the day is enjoined to cause the utmost vigilance to be observed by the pickets upon all parts of the line.

This will not be understood to mean that the troops are to be turned out under arms.
