Volunteers, having reported in accordance with paragraph 31, Special Orders, Numbers 47, War Department, Adjutant-General's Office, January 30, 1865, is announced as assistant adjutant-general at these headquarters, and will be respected accordingly.

II. The major-general commanding regrets the necessity which deprives the department of the services of Major General C. H. Raymond, assistant adjutant-general, and trusts the same success will follow him in private life which has attended his efforts whilst connected with the army.

The regiment of cavalry at New Creek can be made an effective body of men, to be cut loose from the post at any time, if you will send a regiment of infantry there. It must be recollected that you have nearly, if not fully, 12,00 men on the line of the railroad and at the outposts-Philippic, Buckhannon, and Bulltown.
