HEADQUARTERS SECOND ARMY CORPS,
January 30, 1865-11.55 a. m.

Major-General WEBB,

Chief of Staff, Army of the Potomac:

A deserters from the Thirteenth Georgia, Evans' brigade, states that Rode's old division (Battle commanding) is also near Petersburg; that it came down from the Walley a short time after the other division. This is different from the information I have had, though it may not me to you. I have questioned the man closely. There were two deserters from this corps to the enemy last night-one from the First Division and one from the Second Division.

A. A. HUMPHRYES,

Major-General, Commanding.
