XIII. Major J. E. Calloway, Twenty-first Illinois Infantry, is hereby assigned to duty as judge-advocate on the staff of Major General James B. Steedman, commanding District of the Etowah, and will report accordingly.

XXVI. By virtue of his position as a department commander, Major General J. M. Schofield will assume command of the troops now assembling at Pulaski, Tenn., and operating in front of that place.

XXVII. Captain Henry M. Cist, assistant adjutant-general at these headquarters, will open a branch of the assistant adjutant- general's office of the department at Nashville, Tenn.

The rebels are reported organizing a regiment at Black Water. Try to find out about it, and co-operate with the Eleventh Michigan Cavalry, and surprise the camp. Let me know what you learn before morning.
