COLONEL: The brigadier-general commanding directs that you will remain where you are for the present. By instructions from General Lee he is directed to collect all the available troops in this region to protect the salt works, watch the movements of the enemy, and defend the country.

If any opportunity arises for a movement toward Northwestern Virginia he promises you the advance.
