Our conference will be held just outside of Chicago, IL Our conference hotel is the beautiful Westin Chicago Northwest. Through special arrangements we have procured a discounted room rate of $99/night, single or double occupancy for a standard double queen or king (regularly $189-$209/night) + local & state tax). These rates will be good for two days prior to and two days after the conference dates and includes a complimentary breakfast. The Westin offers several different room packages, such as a breakfast package, at additional cost. You will need to make your room reservations NLT April 10, 2014 in order to receive our special rates. After that date, any unclaimed rooms will be let go and you will have to pay the regular room rate, if rooms are available. The Westin is a full service hotel with room service and a full service restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The standard room has 400 sq ft ; Mini bar ; 32-inch flat screen LCD TV; Heavenly Bed & Bath; Wi-Fi internet for an additional charge. Restaurants are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In addition, there are numerous dining opportunities outside the hotel. The Westin is 12 miles from O’Hare Airport, ~ 28 miles from Midway Airport, 2 miles from the train station and Route 616 bus. There is complimentary shuttle service within a 5 mile radius that will take guests to the bus and train as well as the local area.

It is very important that you register with our conference hotel, rather than with another hotel, because of certain amenities that the hotel is providing based on the number of room nights booked. area. Our Saturday field trip will be to the International Surgical Museum and the site of Camp Douglas (actual sites are subject to change). The “Soldiers’ Home” in Civil War America; George Munkenbeck- Healing Body & Soul: Feeding the sick and wounded during transport and in hospital during the American Civil War; David Keller - Camp Douglas - Chicago’s Prisoner of War Camp; Mark Laubacher, R.N. Cold Blooded Envenomation of 1861-65; Robert Slawson, M.D. - Charles Tripler: First Medical Director of the Army of the Potomac; Mavis Slawson, R.N. - Clothing the Union Army; Jon Willen- Custer Surgeons & The Story of the Surgeon who Survived the Battle of Little Big Horn - Henry R. Porter and Zabdiel Boylston Adams, Surgeon and Soldier 1829-1902; Robert O’Connor - James E. Hanger, the Civil War Soldier Who Developed the Modern Prosthetic; Greg Rodenbeck - Civil War Dentistry; Trevor Steinbach, Ed. D.-Illinois’ Other Prisoner of War Camps; and a Q & A session with the speakers at the end of the conference. Speakers and topics subject to change.
