Washington's Secret Six

George Wachington The Secret SixWhen Fox News Channel’s Brian Kilmeade learned that a fascinating, little known aspect of the Revolutionary War took place near his home on Long Island, he teamed up with writer Don Yaeger to bring the story to a wide audience. His new book George Washington’s Secret Six: The Spy Ring TGeorge Wachington The Secret Six Ledgerhat Saved the American Revolution, on sale November 5, tells the dramatic history of the spy ring Washington relied on to turn the tide of the war.

When General George Washington beat a hasty retreat from New York in 1776, many assumed the American Revolution was over. Realizing he would never beat the British military with might, Washington instead turned to a network of spies to out-maneuver his opponents. Tapping into previously unpublished research, Fox News Channel’s Brian Kilmeade and co-author Don Yaeger uncover the gripping history of six amazing, anonymous Patriots – dubbed by George Washington the Culper Spy Ring – who risked their lives for our freedom.

Led by Robert Townsend, a reserved merchant, the six members of the Culper Ring practiced spycraft that would have made the CIA proud. Drawing on extensive research, they include the compelling and varied portraits of the before unknown ring with stories ranging from a reserved Quaker merchant,to a woman who used her feminine charm to coax officers to share vital secrets, to a tavern keeper, to a young longshoreman who loved baiting the British.

Now these six can take their place amongst the pantheon of heroes of the American Revolution.
As Kilmeade writes: “I hope with this book to give the secret six the credit they didn’t get in life. The Culper spies represent all the patriotic Americans who give so much for their country but, because of the nature of their work, will not or cannot take a bow or even talk about their missions.”
