The Sherman House Museum in Lancaster, Ohio, has pulled together a fascinating lineup of speakers for its 2013 Symposium: "Vicksburg & Gettysburg -- Was either battle a game changer

 

Scheduled to appear are Grant biographer Jean Edward Smith; Vicksburg historian Terrence J. Winschel; Pemberton biographer Michael Ballard; Gettysburg authority Eric J. Wittenburg; Civil War historian Robert Leith; Civil War scholar Jamie Ryan; and Frederick Douglass presenter Michael E. Crutcher Sr.

 

The event, presented by the Fairfield Heritage Association, will be held Sept. 27-29 at The Lodge in Lancaster, 129 E. Main St., Lancaster, Ohio.

 

The weekend begins with a concert of historic sea shanties performed by the Hard Tackers Shanty Crew. 

 

Tickets are $125 each for groups of 8 or more registering together; $140 for tickets purchased separately; $80 for students; $90 for one-day passes. Prices rise after Sept. 6.
