Civil War Reenactment in Lake County Cancelled as Culturally Insensitive / Public Safety Concern

Lake County Forest Preserves board President Angelo Kyle called for an end of the district’s annual Civil War Days and cancelled the event.  He is quoted as saying during the June 11 board meeting, 'This has nothing we want, nor should celebrate, nor re-enact.'

Reenactors voiced that those who take part in the events say they don't celebrate the Civil War and are about educating people about the era, and not just the battles.

The event was later put back on the calender... but subsequently removed again citing "public safety concerns."
