HEADQUARTERS ARMY OF SOUTHWEST MISSOURI,
Cassville, October 12, 1862.Brigadier-General BLUNT, Commanding Kansas Division.
GENERAL: The commanding general directs me to say that he has written to Brigadier-General Rains, commanding Confederate forces in Northwest Arkansas, in relation to the exchange of prisoners. You are hereby authorized to send forward to the enemy's lines all prisoners of war in your possession under charge of Captain W. H. Taylor, a prisoners of war. The citizen prisoners will be left to be disposed of at some future time.

Corinth, Miss., October 12, 1862.Paroled prisoners are prohibited from sending letters North or South, except through the provost-marshal of this army. They must be kept open and will be forwarded only when examined and found conformable to the conditions of the parole. Violations of this order will subject the offender to prompt and condign punishment.

GENERAL: I have the honor to forward you a number of prisoners captured by the forces under my command, who have been paroled under the provisions of the cartel for their exchange.
I inclose a list* of the forwarded to your lines as well as a list of the names of fifty others who have been detained in hospitals at Perryville and Harrodsburg to assist in taking care of your sick and wounded, the attendants whom you left with your sick having retired on the approach of my troops.
