Fox's Regimental Losses In The American Civil War
LT. COL. William F. Fox, after the war, was compelled by conscience and expediency to compile statistics of the losses during the war to accurately reflect the numbers which the muster rolls could not. Using Regimental Histories, Fox reviewed the Official Records and added back in the casualties of those soldiers and sailors who did not have family to vouch for their presence - those men often listed as "missing". In releasing his work, Fox hoped to bring to the student of the war the accurate scope of effect long before the Official Record could be published.
Our goal with this section is to provide an easily navigated text. LtCol Fox did an admirable job of providing more than simply statistics - he recorded a piece of history in a compelling manner that is a tribute to all those who fought and died, or were wounded, and the communities which provided their sons and fathers.
