My scouts returned last night. Saw the bushwhackers' pickets, but did not find their camp. No news to-day. The stage left here this morning under escort.

SIR: Am in receipt of your flattering, communication, and I have to report all quiet on the front; no excitement except now and then a scattering bushwacker skulking around. The gangs appear to have made their way north of me-that is, the old ones that have infested this country for the last two years-and are now rusticating in the vicinity of the lower Grand River, Honey Creek, Big Creek, and the country north and east of me. Unless there be some big raids from below I shall turn my attention to the hunting
