14, 1862.-Lieutenant General John C. Pemberton, C. S. Army, assumes command of the Department of the Mississippi and Eastern Louisiana, including forces intending to operate in Southwestern Tennessee.

16, 1862.-Department of the Tennessee constituted, under command of Major General Ulysses S. Grant, U. S. Army.

17, 1862.-Skirmish at Island Number 10, Tenn.

21, 1862.-Skirmish at Woodville, Tenn.
