The American Civil War Museum of Ohio

The American Civil War Museum of Ohio celebrated its grand opening in
Tiffin, Ohio on January 29th. Over 400 visitors enjoyed the opening day festivities that included a flag raising ceremony by the Veterans United Council, music by the Heritage Minstrels, Reenactor presentations and free food and drink.

The American Civil War Museum of Ohio is a not-for-profit organization formed to satisfy our community’s need for a unique educational museum by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the American Civil War and its impact on the current generation of American people.

Our Civil War exhibits feature artifacts, dioramas, mannequins, audio visual tools and informational display boards. A 20 minute video titled “Ohio’s Role in the Civil War” is also available for viewing. We also provide a traveling exhibit for those groups not able to travel to our site.

There is no other museum in this area that can offer the unique Civil War educational experience for children and adults provided by the American Civil War Museum of Ohio. Through our singular focus on the American Civil War, we are positioned as a premier source of education, enrichment, and enjoyment for the entire area. Our offerings include a diverse range of programs and activities refreshed often,  ensuring a fresh experience for even the most frequent visitors.

The museum offers nearly 11,000 sqft of exhibit and research facilities to engage the visitor. There are eight main exhibit rooms within the museum with several having an educational learning center. These learning centers include digital audio listening centers, educational handouts and hands on activities (over 40).

A Gift Shop, Research Library, Theatre with 20 minute video on Ohio’s Role in the Civil War and large Presentation Room add to the list of things to do.

Exhibits Include: The Road to War, The War Begins, Life of a Soldier, Leaders, The First Modern War, Medicine, While in the Hands of the Enemy, Life at Home, The War Ends, Dioramas, Battles, Colored Troops and Naval.
