What in everyone's opinion is the absolute best book out there all about the civil war. About the truth. What caused it, what happened, etc etc etc. Just the all around best book with the most accurate information.
Not propaganda, but the truth.
Truth is subjective, so your always on a hiding to knowing to get the truth from any one book, but you could do worse than get S Fooots 3 Vol work on the WBTS, as it covers pretty much all the salient points, from there you could then direct yourself to what portions itrest you, bee it the Confedewrate MJil historys that each state produced for its states mil actions or whatever your intrested in at national level and so on.
That is true. You have to read many books to see both the Union and the Confederate sides of the war. Then, use that to discern truth from falshood. I forgot, also look at the people who didn't want war's perspectives. Textbooks work, but remember: Victors write history.

You really cannot go wrong with either Shelby Foote or Bruce Catton, and if you are interested in Civil War fiction, the Shaara books are also very good.
