Yeah, well, there's always somebody who doesn't appreciate the effort put into making documentaries. I don't think they really wanted to make everyone happy. They were just stating facts from thier point of view.

Your point of view is that he was a crook, which Sherman himself states after the war. To others, he was a leader who knew how to get the job done. I know several Southerners who hated what happened, but admire Sherman's resolve to get the job done and break the Southern spirit. They just don't like how it was done.

I didn't watch it, I had to work. But, I was surprised it wasn't about how he was such an aweful person. Surprise, Surprise.

Just for the record, he's not my hero. I just find what he did interesting. I think he was right in doing it to save the lives of soldiers from both sides. He couldn't have been that bad if he cared about saving Confederates as well as his own men. I think livestock and buildings aren't nearly as important as the lives of those fighting. I'd rather have everything destroyed but know that my relatives fighting would live.

Sherman got caught up in a war that was advanced for his time. And you know what, Sherman ain't even clo-se on my well-liked generals, but, he got the job done (ending the Civil War).

Now, if I said he was a sweet minded man, who kissed babies and gave money to the poor, now, we all know that to be a lie. Sherman was no such person. he was gruff and got thrown in the clapper for being insane early in the CW.

I agree. He got the job done, and that's what matters. As for the ends justifying the means, in this case, I think it does. Hitler is a completely different situation b/c he was a murderer, killing people who were defenseless. Sherman on the other hand mainly destroyed property. Besides, the people weren't totally unarmed, and they could choose to fight and die, or to just leave and go to a safe town. Sherman didn't start a war like Hitler. He ended one. Unlike other men in history, he did it to save lives, not to end them.

Atilla the Hun had nothing on Sherman. He is the worst terrorist in US history. His body should be dug up and hanged for WAR CRIMES.
