I am fairly new to studying the Civil War. I have studied it in school (K-12, and I'm in college now) but I want to study it on my own time.
Does anyone have some suggestions on where to start? Or some good books to read?

start with the begining;)), thera are a lot of informations on the internet, but if you want to red some books i recomend you : Executing Daniel Bright: Race, Loyalty, and Guerrilla Violence in a Coastal Carolina Community 1861-1865 by Barton A. Myers (Louisiana State University Press, 2009)
