Civil War
The Civil War was a historical event that changed the lives of various Americans. The Civil War was between the south and the north. The Civil War split the nation in two halves south (Confederate) and the north (union). The union won the war. It all began when the south opened fire with 50 cannons. The northerners called a person that was with the south copperhead.
The Civil War began on April 12, 1861 4:30 AM the Civil War began at Fort Sumter, in the South Carolina. The civil war was caused by slavery, State’s rights, and sectionalism. Fort Sumter was taken by surprise President Lincoln planned to send supplies to Fort Sumter but the south launched there attack before the supplies got there. General Anderson was asked to surrender immediately, He did but only after he had exhausted his supplies before he did. The Civil War was the one war that cosseted the most Americans lives in the history of America. 3 million fought and about 6oo,ooo about American soldiers died. Others died of civil war injuries.
The president during the war was Abraham Lincoln. The president was not a copperhead he was a man of interest. A famous quote by him was: “A house divided against it cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure permanently half slave and half free. I do not accept that it will cease to be divided it will become the entire one thing or all the other. Either the opponents of slavery will arrest the further spread of it and place it where the public mind shall rest in the belief that it is in course of ultimate extinction, or its advocates will push it forward until it shall become alike lawful in all the states, old as well as new, north as well as south.’’
In 1863, President Lincoln signed the Emancipation proclamation. The proclamation stated that all slaves should be free. The confederacy of the states was formed in February, 1861. The states involved in this was ALABAMA, ARKANSAS, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, LOUISIANA, MISSISSIPPI, NORTH CAROLINA, SOUTH CAROLINA, TENNESSEE, TEXAS, and VIRGINIA. It was formed to declare secession from the United States. Jefferson Davis was the President of the Confederacy. Kentucky and Missouri ended up becoming part of the confederacy. Most of the battles were forays during all that time that was spent in the war.
These are the generals of the Civil War. General Burnside: He was part of the Union army. He also commanded the North Carolina Expeditionary Corps. Burnside was offered to command the Army of the Potomac. He declined the offer of command in the Army of Potomac and command following the debacle of Second Bull Run. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1847.
Ulysses S. Grant: Became the 18 president, captured Fort Henry and Fort Donnellson in February 1862, he fought for the union, his great achievement in 1862-63 was the was to seize control of the Mississippi River, and in 1863 after a victory at Chattanooga, Abraham Lincoln named him general-in-chief of all Union Armies. He was like the guy off of the movie X-men he was like the juggernaut would not stop. .
Robert E. Lee: Was part of the Confederates, most celebrated Confederate general during the American Civil War, Lee was appointed the commander of all Virginia’s forces, he was defeated at the Battle of Cheat Mountain, and he claimed to oppose slavery. George B. McClellan: was on the union side, once was the general-in-chief of the union Armies, organized the Army of the Potomac, he ran unsuccessfully as the President of the U.S., and participated in the Mexican War.
Thomas Jonathan Jackson “Stonewall”: His nickname was “stonewall” Jackson. He was on the confederate side, he accidentally shot by his own troops, commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, and most believe he was one of the most tactical commanders, his nickname was Stonewall, and he first got his nickname at the First Battle of Bull Run. The Battle of Gettysburg was fought near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The two generals involved were General Lee and General Meade. It was fought July 1 through July 3, 1863 it is well This battle was took place in Washington County, NC on April 17 through April 20, 1864 known because it was the bloodiest battle of the civil war, and basically the turning point. Abraham Lincoln is saying in the Gettysburg Address that we are engaged in a fierce war, but we are going to try the hardest we can to make some good out of it. After the war we will try to unite and remember who fought and die for our nation. These were the genrals thet fought in the war. Some norht and some south
General William Tecumseh Sherman: Born on February 8, 1820 in Lancaster, Ohio, his father died when he was young. Widowed and unable to care for the entire family, his mother sent Brother Thomas to be raised by an aunt and William became a foster child to Thomas Ewing, his father's friend. Cump, as he was known, later married Mr. Ewing's daughter, Ellen. Educated at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he graduated in 1840. During the Mexican War, Sherman was posted in San Francisco. He resigned his commission in 1853 to become a partner in a bank there. He was as part of the union army. Also lead the Sherman’s March during the war. Help end the war by having a shaman’s march. He made general lee surrender during the war because he was out of supplies and his soldiers where exhausted also he was over whelmed. He was already fighting another general
There where many battles of the Civil War heres a list of battles: First Battle of Bull Run, Battle of Shiloh, Battle of Antietam, Battle of Worcester, second Battle of Bull run, Fort Sumter, Battle of Vicksburg, Battle Gettysburg. These were many battles of the Civil War the battle of Antietam was the bloodiest battle of all. The war was like a bull fight. The north won they were vindictiveness. The north showed no clemency during the wars.
The sage of Vicksburg people lived in caves they got very gaunt but of course some people were tenacious and died from starvation. They ate rats and every thing they could to survive. Another battle was The Battle of Antietam; in Maryland was one of three battles the North won. This one was fought on September 17, 1862, near Sharpsburg, Maryland, and Antietam Creek as part of the Maryland Campaign, was the 1st major battle in the American Civil War to take place on Northern soil. It was the bloodiest single-day battle in American history. It had almost 23,000 causalities. Another battle the North won would have to be Battle of Plymouth. The last one would have to the Battle of Worcester. This was the final battle of the English Civil War. The 16,000 Royalist forces were overwhelmed by the 28,000 strong “New Model Army” of Cromwell. Cromwell was the main one in charge of this battle. The war lasted 4 years 1861 to 1865. The war ended in May, 1865 and the papers where signed April, 1865.The papers where signed by general lee him self. The war end at Appomattox Courthouse with just a signature. I think that it was a relief for everyone in the Untied States of America. Therefore that is the only war that was fought on American soil, and for that reason we have always been fascinated with The Civil War. It was a very horrific event.
There are books during, after, before the war. One book I have read was Across Five Aprils this book had very many characteristics one of them was ominous. This book had half family to go to wa. The Civil War was a very horrendous time for our nation. That concludes my report about the Civil War. Furthermore this was a very main event in history it changed everyone’s life. However it all came out like it should have been at first. :P :P

The first state to secede from the Union was South Carolina in 1860 shortly after Lincolns election.
While Gen. Robert E. Lee opposed slavery he fought for the Confederacy because not only was Virginia was his home(Arlington) but he felt that the States, even Virginia, had the right to be wrong. Lee was also a Christian who loved the Lord
who after the war became a college professor.
You can for a side referrence read the Constitution of the Confederate States of America.
