I have a Confederate Soldier ambrotype that I'm trying to research. It is in the original case. The photo is in very nice condition. The ambrotype is from the waist up and he is wearing the enlisted shell jacket and appears to have pocket with paper or something in it, so maybe a type II if that makes any sense?... This guy is from Alabama. His last name is Ray, but I'm trying to figure the first name from relatives.

Along with this, I have the Southern Cross of Honor issued by United Daughters of the Confederacy and a red ribbon that reads: "Official Badge, Northeast Alabama Association, U.C.V. Reunion, Anniston, ALA., Sept. 18-19, 1906.

Can anyone help me with a good place to research these things and their values? I have done basic internet searches on the ambrotype, but the info and values are all over the place.

Obviously, I'm very new to this and appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Eric

This site isn't for showing Rebel pride. It's for discussion and learning. Not everyone here supports the Confederacy.

I agree with N.W.15thAR on some of this. For one, I think if you say your a "Rebel" today, then people should know that your Pro-Confederate and not really a rebel don't you think. And secondly I call myself a rebel and I ain't a liar nor a redneck, I'm black and very proud of my heritage. So I don't want people to think all rebels are white, because if you do then your the one that's stupid.

Have ya tried the museum of the confederacy in Richmond? Or the Library of Congress, at ndlpcoll@loc.gov .
