Does anyone on this site (besides me) support the Union? Does anyone else want to wear the Blue instead of the Grey? Or is this site a bunch of supporters of the Confederacy and one lonely believer in Ol' Glory? (Sorry if that sounds mean, but I mean it nicely of course. We're all friends here, no matter who we side with!)

Btw, is there still nothing that can be done about all the spam on here lately? It's getting worse and worse everyday. I really want to do something about it, but I don't know what to do. Anyone care to help me out with this?

Just an update - the spam on here has ebbed and flowed over the years. Each time it ramps up, we try to figure out a way to eliminate it or limit it. We have tried and use moderators, we have switched the forum software, we have implemented language checking software and we have put in place security measures to prevent spamming. Hopefully todays version of the forum contains less spam and is spam resitant enough to provide a decent posting environment.

I'm really happy to finally see some Northern support! I know what you mean about the others. They know more about it than me too. I try to stay out of the lengthy debates 'cause I know I can't keep up. But hopefully someday we'll be able to show 'em up!

I'm a Yankee, and I really struggle to understand the point of view of the other side.

I think it's important to keep an open mind, and while I have to admit that I buy and read more pro-Union books, I still read books with a Southern point of view, except for DiLorenzo. I have heard too much about his hatefulness toward the North, and his inaccurate claims, to have any interest in what he has to say.

I believe that whatever one's bias may be, a fair and accurate assessment is that both sides fought for what they believed in; they fought hard, and they were honorable men.

i like to study both sides. i wouldn't go to either side without understanding their perspectives im not saying that i believe in slavery but the plantations in the south were so big that they needed other people to work on them. john bown took slavery way over the edge. he murdered men just to show how much he hated slavery. so if you study the big things and the little things you will be able to conclude if that side's perspective is good or bad. a few of our nation's presidents owned slaves. president george washington and president thomas jefferson owned slaves. but after they died, the let their slaves free. so each side thought that their perspective was the right one. so basically im nuetral.

Just so there is no question about where I am coming from: I was born and raised in Michigan. Due to my, and my wife's Navy career (she is from waaaaay south...Australia) we spent many, many years in Virginia. Joined the 3rd Va. Vol. Inf. (reenactment) there. So I have seen it from both sides.

I support neither North or South. I'm American. I don't think its a matter of who we support. The War ended in 1865. As memory serves, Lee and Davis both stated in one form or another that it was all over.

It is now up to us to learn what happened. And to teach our children what happened. So it don't happen again. This is where we fall short.
