The Civil War Preservation Trust just announced a new campaign to help preserve 117 acres of historic Morris Island. Morris Island is where some of the first shots of the Civil War were fired (at Fort Sumter) and where the ill-fated assault on Battery Wagner (shown in the movie Glory) happened.

This new campaign is being held in support of efforts led by State of South Carolina, the City of Charleston, and the Trust for Public Land.

For more details on how you can help support this effort take a look at:

www.civilwar.org/morrisisland08

The site has lots of great maps of the area, interesting historical articles, a quiz, and a good number of historical and modern photos of the site. A good resource for anyone interested in the 1863 campaign on Morris Island.
