I am new to all this and have several questions that I hope you can help me with. Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Mark and I am both a Teamster and a High school history teacher (try to figure that out) I have been very fortunate that my family has such a wealth of documented history, from our coming ashore in 1670 in Massachusetts on my mothers side, to my fathers arrivial from Germany in 1953.
I am the last descendent to live in Quincy, MA. where our family served from the siege of Boston to the Jungles of Vietnam. That is just one side of one side of the family.
I am a walking encyclepedia of useless WWII information. My family fought from the frozen steppes of Russia (grandfather) to jumping in to Normandy on D-day with the 82nd airborne (uncle) It was a modern day Civil war. Both of them would lose their lives along with several other relatives.
In future posts I would like to ask questions about such things as the Massachusetts Militia, other units that family was in (1st Virginia Cavalry) and simple tech questions; Was a corproal considered an NCO? And so much more.
Hope that you will share your knowledge.
Thank you _________________ My family has been destroyed by war. Let us study it, so we never have to suffer from it. |

Hello Mark,
I don't post here often but it is a pretty interesting sight. Speaking of the first Virginia Cav; Don Troiani has a nice new print of that unit at Second Manassas. He also has prints of Mass. regiments.
