Greetings all,
I hope this is not off topic for this forum--forgive me if I have erred.

I am trying to identify a war memorial found in a woodcut in a 19th century memoir, dated 1892.

For all I know it may have been a concept only and never built. It is similar to pillar monuments in New Haven, CT, Boston, Indianapolis, even Des Moines, IA, but is none of these.

It features a series of hexagonal, (so they appear), stone steps up to a large, solid (no doorways apparent), stone base, with pedestals at each corner of the base. Atop each pedestal is a standing soldier--at least one of which seems to be a cloaked civil war figure bearing a musket with fixed bayonet and a kepi, and another MAY be a revolutionary war soldier. Atop the stone base is a two-level, six-sided pediment bearing inscriptions, and supporting a greek/corinthian-style column surmounted by a winged victory.

You may view the woodcut at:

Thanks in advance,

Alan McCright

It looks quite similar to the monuments found at the Army of the Confederacy Cemetery at Chickamauga National Park. Maybe a Google image search could help you further.
Best of luck!
